Located right in the middle of the Mississippi and the Missouri River systems, Iowa has some excellent fishing waters. Iowa has 31 natural lakes, over 200 man-made lakes, and over 19,000 miles of fishable inland rivers and streams. The most popular sport fish in Iowa is the channel catfish. Bass, bluegill, crappie, perch, pike, and walleye are found throughout the state, and Iowa’s only coldwater species is trout. The Mississippi River and Iowa’s Great Lakes, including West Okoboji Lake, are home to many state record catches in Iowa.
