Tuna, dolphin, marlin, and other big game fish are caught in droves off of the shelf. Gigantic striped bass, tough fishing bluefish, flounder, tautog, and many other types of saltwater fish are also caught off Block Island and other famous fisheries. The freshwater fishing is almost as good as the salt. Largemouth bass, pike, crappie, trout, and salmon are all caught in Rhode Island’s freshwater fisheries.
