From the Black Hills and Badlands to the Prairies, South Dakota has over 1,100 square miles of water. The western part of South Dakota, known as the Black Hills, Badlands, and Lakes Region, is comprised of lakes and creeks full of trout and largemouth bass. The Great Lakes Region, made up of the Missouri River waters in the center of the state, holds walleye, sauger, northern pike, channel catfish, smallmouth and largemouth bass, chinook salmon, muskie, and several varieties of panfish. The eastern side of South Dakota is covered with glacial lakes and the Big Sioux and Missouri Rivers. This region is abundant in walleye, sauger, channel catfish, smallmouth and largemouth bass, bullhead, bluegill, perch and crappie. |
